Abstract :
Integrated Multiplex, Patch and Test (IMPAT) is a modular, processor-controlled system that combines and provides improved electronic patch and time division multiplexer (TDM) functions using less space, power, and equipment than communications equipment in use today. A product of Martin Marietta Or lando Aerospace (MMOA), IMPAT has been developed for the U.S. Army Satellite Communications Agency (USASATCOMA) for deployment in the Defense Satellite Communication System (DSCS). Key advantages of IMPAT when compared to conventional TDM equipment and manual patch panels include: space and power savings, lower cost and life-cycle cost, centralized processor control, rapid system restoral and reconfiguration, inter-operability with inventory equipments, and high system availability through the use of standby modules and automatic switchover.
