Abstract :
A general-purpose hybridized Nuclear Event Detector (NED) that is currently available to producers of hardened military communications equipment is described. The need for an NED to initiate and control circumvention is discussed, along with the features of the device. Radiation degradation data and ionizing radiation response data of the device are also presented. Finally, several applications of the NED are introduced which are applicable for hardening most types of communication equipment.
