  • Abstract
This paper describes the development of a wearable heart rate monitoring apparatus as a form of a wrist watch, which is able not only to measure photoplethymography (PPG) signal on the outside region of a wrist but also to be insensitive to movement artifact caused by probe-coupling effects. Thus, to develop the wearable device, we chose three requirements: wireless communication, the measurement of the PPG on a side region of a wrist including a radial artery not at finger, and noise cancelling techniques about probe-coupling artifacts and motion artifacts. We show that how a sophisticated artifact cancelling algorithm works properly through various experiments.
