Abstract :
The conventional method for the coordinated design of power system stabilizers (PSS) is mainly based on the linearized power system model. The complex and nonlinear dynamic of the power systems is not considered in the design. Though using the conventional PSS design method is fast and easy, the obtained PSSs may not suit all the disturbances, especially large disturbances. To overcome this disadvantage, a new coordinated PSS design method based on the nonlinear time-domain simulation is proposed in this paper. Differential evolution algorithm, which is a new branch of evolutionary algorithms, is applied to solve the nonlinear optimization problem of PSS coordination. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated on a 4-machine 2-area test system.
