Abstract :
The rate adaptation scheme refers to the adaptation of the client´s transmission mode with the goal of selecting the optimal transmission mode that will give the maximum performance for the given wireless channel conditions. However, the rate adaptation scheme introduces a performance anomaly problem which degrades the channel utilization of the WLAN system. In this paper, we propose a new time-based fairness scheme to resolve the performance anomaly problem in multi-rate WLAN environments. The proposed scheme transmits consecutive data frames based on the selected transmission mode. Therefore, it can improve the wireless channel utilization efficiently compared to the previous time-based fairness schemes.
