Abstract :
One of the most critical issues in energy-limited wireless sensor networks (WSN) is how to make the most of energy efficient strategies to improve system performance. In this paper the system performance is represented by energy-efficiency and data-efficiency. First the case where all the wireless nodes are distributed uniformly is considered and an optimization problem is set up as well as resolved. Then a network of a new distribution is constructed to improve the system performance greatly. The two approaches are compared through simulation. The results show that the network of uniform distribution can not meet our requirement while the newly constructed one is much more desirable. Our algorithm can also provide a good benchmark against which effective heuristics may be proposed.
