Abstract :
In this paper we present the design of a dual band antenna for the 802.11 standard that consists of a Sierpinski monopole and a fractal-based ground. The ground plane is built using four copies of a Sierpinski gasket rotated 90deg among them. The resonances introduced by the ground plane are combined with the resonances of the monopole to improve the performance of the whole structure. The final tuning provides an extra improvement. Simulations and measurements are in good agreement, showing the advantages of using fractal shapes in both the monopole and the ground plane.
