Abstract :
With the non-hydrostatic mesoscale meteorological model (MM5), the maximum intensity of blood-causing torrential rain occurred in the Leizhou Peninsula from Aug. 8 to 11 in 2007 is simulated. The result shows that the simulated rainfall intensity has a good agreement with the observation, but the simulated appearance of heavy precipitation is slightly later and the rainfall of the precipitation center is obviously smaller than the observations. The maximum precipitation was accompanied by intense convergence, mainly affected by the interaction of the peripheral circulation originated from the weakened ldquoPABUKrdquo, the trough extending to the southwest and the vortex in Beibu Gulf. There are good correspondences between the strong centers of the three factors (vertical velocity, divergence and vorticity fields) and the heavy precipitation area. Convergence in the lower layer, divergence in the upper, and vigorous updraft was the most important factors for the occurrence of this precipitation.
