Abstract
This paper describes the EMI / ESD control methodology applied through the development of a satellite, in order to guarantee electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). The main principles adopted to immunize the satellite against electrostatic discharge (ESD), consequent upon the charging environment encountered in geostationary orbit are discussed. The design guidelines followed to control ESD, the grounding measures used to achieve EMC are described. The EMI/ESD test matrix carried out at equipment level, to demonstrate the adequacy of the EMI/ESD measures is highlighted. Also given is the system level workman ship verification plan for grounding.
