Abstract
Inter Pulse Interference (IPI) will increase with improvement of transmission rate of an Impulse Ultra-Wide Band (I-UWB) system, and worsen the Symbol Error Rate (SER), so that restricting to the highest realizable rate. The limit function of IPI to the highest realizable rate of I-UWB is analyzed. Firstly, the estimated formula of IPI of I-UWB is derived, and then, the worsening effect on SER of IPI with the increase of transmission rate under the four channel modes that defined by IEEE is simulated. The results show that, if the SER is required to be lower than one in a thousand, due to the IPI effect, the highest transmission rate that the system can realize is only a few percent of the transmission bandwidth.
