Abstract :
In the downlink of cdma2000 1x EV-DO system, virtual soft handoff technology is implemented through sector selection between related sectors, as a result some packets may be lost and data service interrupted during this procedure. This paper analyzes the reasons of packet loss and service delay caused by handoff in detail, and in order to reduce them we presents two ways: allocate appropriate buffer size and improve scheduling algorithm. Simulation results show that lower handoff packet loss rate, smaller handoff service delay and higher downlink data throughput can be obtained through controlling the downlink buffer size in BSs and exploiting handoff-based PF scheduling algorithm.
