Abstract :
AVS (Audio Video Coding Standard), the latest multimedia coding standard developed by AVS Working Group of China, employs many new techniques. Compared with MPEG-2, which only supports DC intra prediction, AVS adopts complicated intra prediction modes in pixel domain, which result in a high computational load for MPEG-2-to-AVS transcoding. In this paper, we propose a novel algorithm to fast select intra mode utilizing the energy distributing properties of DCT coefficients decoding from MPEG-2. Based on the analysis of intra prediction in transform domain, we select the best intra mode according to the relation between different energy groups of DCT coefficients. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm decreases the complexity while maintaining similar performance.
