Abstract :
To speed up the encoding process at low bit rate, a improvement of rate control based on the basic idea of PCRD in JPEG2000 is proposed. The aim of the algorithm is to achieve equivalent performance of PCRD with less computational complexity and smaller memory buffer at low bit rate. The main improvement exists where it determines the included coding passes of a code block before they will be encoded. Therefore, the excluded passes will never be encoded actually, which results in the fact that the computational operations and the memory of buffering the temporary bit stream would be reduced greatly. The performance of the proposed method is experimentally investigated in jasper VM software.
