Abstract
DCCP (Datagram Congestion Control Protocol) is proposed by IETF to transmit real-time traffic as a substitute for UDP. There are two main congestion control mechanisms in DCCP, which are CCID2 and CCID3. However they are designed for wired links which are assumed to have negligible errors, so they are not suitable for wireless networks with long RTT and high bit error rates. RCS (Rate Control Scheme) is an application layer rate control scheme rightly for real-time applications in networks with long RTT and high bit error rates. By the combination of DCCP and improved RCS, we make DCCP a more suitable protocol for real-time multimedia services in wireless networks.
