Abstract :
In pharmaceutical packaging, tablet inspection is an important part of safety and quality standard. Image segmentation is the key process for visual inspection. To improve accuracy and robustness of segmentation, in this paper, a method to construct a hybrid color space for the color tablet images by selecting a set of color components is introduced. Such space leads to a better discriminating power than classical color spaces, Image segmentation results based on gray level, RGB and hybrid color spaces are analyzed. Experimental results demonstrate that edges of tablets are accurately extracted in segmented image based on hybrid color space. This helps overcome the influence of non-uniform illumination.
