Abstract :
In assembly modeling process, standard parts and some existing components with typical assembly feature are often inserted into the assembly model of a product directly and the design time could be reduced if these components are to be effectively managed. In this paper, the typical assembly feature is functionally driven. The types of constraints are summarized through assembly process research and a components-level parametrization method is introduced. After that, a convenient and powerful assembly mechanism for these components is proposed on the basis of features and the constraints among them. In this research, a component database and a system for rapid assembly design are developed based on a coding system and a method to retrieve the components is given.
