Abstract
An equalizer is always adopted in an underwater acoustic communication system to reduce the intersymbol interference (ISI) due to the multipath effect. This paper introduces the basic structure and principle of a blind equalizer at first. Then the constant modulus algorithm (CMA) is derived and applied to an underwater communication system affected by multipath channel severely. The simulation results show that the CMA eliminates the ISI significantly. CMA is valuable practically because the training sequence is unnecessary for it.
