  • Abstract
Due to the fact that most two-dimensional fabric of coarse-grained soil models are not accurate, the three-dimensional model is needed. An algorithm based on the improved ray casting volume rendering is proposed for reconstructing the three-dimensional model of the fabric of coarse-grained soil. This method improves the algorithm by making adaptive threshold segmentation preprocessing of the original data of CT images in the course of ray casting volume rendering. And then the maximum between-cluster variance based on the simulated annealing algorithm is used to define the optimal threshold and search the optimal combination of the parameters. This algorithm reduces the amount of volume data for reconstruction and greatly improves the efficiency of ray casting. The experimental comparison results between the traditional algorithm and the improved one show that the latter method has a better effect in reconstruction, in which the cobblestones pore space is much clearer and the morphological features of the fabric of coarse-grained soil are described more accurately document.
