Abstract
In this paper, we present a new available bandwidth measurement method with the characters of fast-convergence and high-accuracy, which is the improvement of Pathload. Pathload sends probe stream at specific rate and estimates the available bandwidth from the inference of self-induced congestion. Contrary to traditional Pathload method, the new method infers the congestion from two parameters, which are based on the one-way delay variation. The first parameter which indicates the trend of one-way delay can make the available bandwidth more accuracy than the Pathload, and the second parameter makes the measurement procedure very fast which does not induce congestion to cross-traffic. We test our method in controlled environment using NS2 and compare it with the Pathload. The results show that our new method provides high accurate available bandwidth with fast convergence.
