Abstract
For a uniformly spaced linear phased antenna array, an equivalent virtual phased antenna array was derived such that, grating lobes were suppressed within the entire field of view within plusmn 90deg. Hardware is designed for implementation, to convert from the physical phased array to the virtual phased array during reception, and from the virtual phased array to the physical phased array during transmission. The performance is evaluated through simulation, while steering the array from maximum negative to the maximum positive direction. The performance cost paid for this achievement is an increase in the main lobe beam width, with some increase in the side lobe level.
