Abstract
In this paper electromagnetic simulation was utilized to select the optimum separation of via holes necessary to extend the useful operating frequency range of a conductor backed coplanar waveguide (CBCPW) transmission line. The simulation results were discussed, in view of different literature references, to deduce an empirical rule for selecting the optimal separation of viaholes in a conductor-backed coplanar waveguide on a certain substrate for a given frequency range. A sample CBCPW transmission line was implemented to verify the simulation results.
