Abstract :
Knowing the direction to, or even better, the position of an adversary in a tactical situation is advantageous. In our line of work this means localizing a transmitter. HF direction finders are either costly, semi-permanent installations or simple, manually operated devices, whereas a front-line tactical system needs to be easy-to-deploy, low-cost and non-manual operation-wise. The herein presented direction finder has the potential of complying with those requirements. A simple field test was performed in 2007 which showed that the principle worked albeit that it needs improvements. More extensive tests are planned for 2009.
