Abstract
In this paper, the technology of auxiliary VLAN is discussed. When IP phones are connected to the existing switch-based campus area network, the data traffic and voice traffic are present on the VLAN at the same time. To avoid a significant reduction on the quality of the VoIP traffic, the voice traffic is separated from the data traffic on an auxiliary VLAN. In an IP PBX, there are three frame types in which IP phones transmit the voice traffic to switch. In a typical campus area network with dynamic port VLANs, IP phones are added. The VMPS server and VMPS client, which are used for dynamic port VLANs, are configured respectively; moreover, the configuration of auxiliary VLAN and dynamic ports which belong to auxiliary VLAN are implemented in detail. Auxiliary VLAN can ensure the quality of the VoIP traffic when the VoIP traffic share the same physical link and the same port with the data traffic in the native VlANs.
