  • Abstract
PSPICE has been used to model the behavior of a current transient injected into a head/preamp/TSA circuit. In particular, PSPICE can used to assess whether head architecture changes could provide better protection against ESD damage. The input impedance the circuit presents to the incoming transient dramatically affects how much current will discharge across the reader. A small capacitance between the bottom shield and suspension provides protection when the transient is injected at the bottom shield.
