Global survey on planning and operation of active distribution networks - Update of CIGRE C6.11 working group activities

This paper presents the progress of the CIGRE C6.11 working group: Development and operation of active distribution networks. The scope of the working group is to define the concept of active distribution networks (AN), review the status of implementation and actual operating practices, identify enabling technologies, and provide a vision of the future developments in the area. Here the progress of this working group is presented, which includes the definition of ANs and the results of a global survey involving 27 utilities and research bodies worldwide. General features of AN, current status of their implementation and operating practises, as well as limits/barriers are discussed.
