Abstract :
In the attempt of increasing the power system energy efficiency, heat networks represent an enabling means for wider deployment of Combined Heat and Power (CHP) systems. This paper presents a methodology and a relevant tool specifically developed to analyse generic electricity and heat networks. The models developed are suitable for strategic planning of integrated energy systems. The network creation approach is based on fractal theory, and the tool is able to generate, size, and simulate a number of networks so as to resemble a wide range of layouts and possible design strategies. Statistical conclusions can be drawn by running different network layouts. A case study addressing the cost of CHP systems with district heating exemplifies some features of the tool developed.
