Abstract
This paper discusses a long-distance virtual teaching platform based on VRML-JAVA language which is realistic and interactive information construction and scene guided by situational learning theories in views of insufficiency in modern long-distance network teaching. Based on characteristics of VRML and JAVA language, we introduce the structure and function of this platform to realize the platform key technologies including building the virtual scene construction, the substitute person, the community sensation and so on, which makes beneficial exploration in distance education.
