  • Abstract
X-by-wire (XBW) systems technology aims to substitute the traditional mechanical systems by all-electronic ones. It began as fly-by-wire systems in aircrafts. Nowadays, these systems are broadly used and in fast development processing also in automotive. Many advantages of these systems are partially in contrast with high requirements as the fault tolerance and reliability are. This paper introduces one of these systems. The described Steer-by-wire (SBW) system is based on the replacement of the mechanical linkages between the steering and road wheels by the electronics. The introduced SBW system is assembled from two ECUs (electronic control unit), which employ FlexRay protocol for data exchange. Designed SBW system was implemented into real small vehicle.
