Abstract :
A design concept for a compact ultra-wideband printed bowtie antenna is presented in this paper. The antenna is designed for wideband applications over a 500 MHz-2.5 GHz frequency band. The design features a unique Y-shaped bowtie configuration to achieve ultra-wideband performance. Ultra-wideband capabilities of the Y-shaped bowtie antenna are confirmed by direct comparison with a traditional wideband bowtie antenna. A concept to further improve upon the impedance match and overall gain of the printed bowtie antenna is also presented. A prototype of the antenna was built and tested successfully. Ongoing study is focused towards designing an improved feed mechanism for the bowtie antenna.
