  • Abstract
    Feature-based parametric modeling techniques have been widely used for product design, virtual prototyping and manufacturing. Simplified models at various levels of detail (LOD) are frequently more desirable than the highly complex model in many downstream applications. In this paper, a new approach to generate the progressive multiresolution representation for the feature-based parametric CAD models is proposed. The multiresolution modeling is carried out based upon the dependence-removal operation, and the concept of the detailed feature volume is applied to estimate the extent of the simplification process. The examples show the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
