Abstract
This paper presents a novel direct fluorescent ion detection system based on optically active inorganic CdSe quantum dots, surface-functionalized with an organic ionophore, a calixcrown. This new nanoassembly was accomplished via a thiol-based capping strategy. The detection of metal ions upon interaction with the calixcrown relied on changes in quantum dots fluorescence.
