  • Abstract
The advantages of U-shaped lines, such as improving productivity and quality, are very well known in industry. In many factories, traditional straight assembly line configurations were switched to U-shaped layouts in the past few years. U-shape line balancing problem (ULBP) is received more and more people attention. In this paper, an effective heuristic is proposed for solving type 1 of the fuzzy U-shaped line balancing problem. One of the features of the proposed algorithm is using fuzzy position weight of ULBP for ranking. An illustrative example is presented and its performance compared with existing approaches to demonstrate the validity of the proposed algorithm. The results show that the proposed heuristic algorithm is effective.
