Abstract
Two diesel engines with electronically controlled unit injector were employed to investigate the number emissions and size distributions of the exhaust particles. One engine meets the emission standard of Euro III and another is for more stringent emission level, Euro III. The experimental results indicate that the engines with different emission levels have the similar particle maximum number concentration and size distribution pattern. The particle maximum number concentrations of two engines are at the 8 orders of magnitude and both the number-weighted size distributions fit the lognormal distribution. The brake specific number emissions of exhaust particles of Euro III engine are less than those of Euro III engine at most engine conditions.
