Abstract
In this paper, we compare the performance of two classes of adaptive beamformers for wideband and coherent signals. It is well known that when the desired signal and interferences are partially or completely correlated, performance of conventional beamformer degrades severely. Therefore, spatial smoothing method and frequency focusing method have been proposed to tackle coherent sources. In this paper, we first discuss a frequency focusing method which is based on time-domain and can be applied to real time systems. And then, a new wideband beamformer was proposed by introducing spatial smoothing method into Frost beamformer. Result of simulations shows that the new beamformer has better frequency response than the time-domain based frequency focusing beamformer.
