Abstract :
A 5-axis milling machine has a lot independent geometric error components when the machine tool is considered as a set of five rigid bodies. The identification of the deterministic component of the systematic error is very important. It permits one to improve the accuracy close to the repeatability of the machine tool. We developed ultrasonic profile measurement of workpiece to improve the machining accuracy. The surface model of the workpiece was reconstructed by the method of profile measurement. The sensitivity compensate was realized through calculating the thickness of workpiece at measuring point. Path of C-scan was programmed based on the restructured model. Results of experiments using pulse echo method show the applicability of the proposed techniques. It is shown that the precision and efficiency of NC process can be increased by taking practical measures in the site.
