  • Abstract
XML is an extremely versatile data format used to represent many different kinds of data. It is playing an increasingly important role in the exchange of a wide variety of data on the Web. In order to implement information searching, XQuery even can be server-side scripts for dynamic web application. This paper proposes an approach based on XQuery for implementing web searching. It describes how to create XQuery application and perform web queries. XQuery scripts can be compiled into executable Java servlets that can access web requests and query XML, afterwards generate XHTML pages to respond users. By means of an actual example of an on-line library, it describes and analyses the process that includes building application environment, implementing searching and session tracking. As a result, XQuery can efficiently implement searching scripting on the web application.
