Abstract
Housing industrialization is defined in this study as the use of construction methods, both on and off site that utilize principles associated with factory production to prefabricate components, elements or modules that when fixed in position form part of the completed building. Housing industrialization is oriented with housing market demand and supported by science and technological advancement, based on systemized building systems and housing components. The key features of housing industrialization are standardization of housing design; industrialization as well as socialization of housing production and management. This paper aims to focuses on the design of housing for the city Chongqing which include the alternative design methods of energy-saving, ecological design methods; the factors having major impacts on buildings; local climate condition; and the use of local materials. Technology and measure of energy-saving and the application of appropriate materials and equipment need to be considered at the planning and design stages are also covered.
