Abstract :
Ontology is an effective method of knowledge representation, however, the existing methods of constructing ontology are not suitable for the field of patent. It is known that the UML modeling of graphical is more intuitive than OWL. According to the demand of the patent information, the paper gives an ontology modeling method which combined UML with OWL in order to put forward the improvement of existing modeling methods, and gives the detailed steps, then uses the method to construct the domain ontology of patent, finally takes the "Washer" subclass of patent field for example and gives a description with OWL. This approach improves the recall ratio and precision of the patent information, also, has some reference value to the construction of other domain ontologies.
