Abstract :
This paper proposes a novel technique for controlling the voltage magnitude and its phase angle variables of Flexible AC Transmission Systems FACTS device called static phase shifter for automatic generation control. The proportional controllers are designed to modulate simultaneously the static phase shifter variables for enhancing the automatic generation control performance. The tabu search optimization approach is used for determining the proportional controllers parameters. The two-area interconnected power system with integral control is implemented. The static phase shifter is used to regulate the power flow through tie-line of the two- area power system. Therefore, the frequencies of the two-area power system are stabilized. The simulation results show the responses of studied system with the proposed static phase shifter after applying either step or sinusoidal load disturbance are improved rather than with integral -control speed governor only. Moreover, The control system of Static phase shifter is easy to be implemented practically without big cost.
