Abstract
This study introduced the test results which have been carried out on a wire - tube corona apparatus to measure the corona onset voltage, the maximum pre-breakdown corona current and the breakdown voltage in atmospheric air with a crossed magnetic field. In general transverse magnetic field, applied perpendicularly to the electric field, resulted in an improvement in pre-breakdown, characteristic of the wire - tube gap. The application of the transverse field has the effect of increasing the corona onset voltage and the breakdown voltage, also the transverse applied field has the effect of decreasing the corona current. It has been observed that triggering of the breakdown streamers in negative corona is affected appreciably by the transverse magnetic field It is believed that the results indicate the significance of the crossed magnetic field on the breakdown streamers in both positive and negative coronas.
