Abstract
A method is proposed in this paper for designing a series active harmonic filter which can eliminate voltage harmonic present in the busbar voltage by producing of a PWM controlled harmonic voltage. According to this method the active filter produces PWM voltage that cancels completely the existing harmonic voltage due to any harmonic voltage source up to any order. The proposed method is valid for any distorted busbar voltage. The percentage of each harmonic in the distorted voltage has been found by sampling the distorted voltage. According to harmonic order in the distorted voltage, the firing angle of the active filter can be defined by the PWM control in order to eliminate completely the harmonics up to the desired order. The algorithm of calculation is general and valid for suppress any voltage harmonic source generating voltage harmonics. Also, the series active filter is used in this study to boost the 50 Hz voltage.
