Abstract
PPStream (PPS) and PPLive (PPL) are two important representatives of peer to peer video streaming systems in China. So far, most studies focus on PPL, but we show our interest in PPS all the time. In our previous work, we found that PPS exhibits great difference from PPL in buffer sharing mechanism and proposed a primary model to better analyze PPS. During our process of studying PPS, the buffer structure and sharing mechanism are changed as well as transport layer protocol. We make a large scale measurement of new PPS and reanalyze all messages exchanged between peers. Based on the model we proposed, we find the new buffer mechanism overcomes the disadvantages of previous system which proves the validity of our model. In a word, the measurement and analysis of this paper brings insight on the design and optimization of future P2P video streaming system.
