Abstract :
Image inpainting is an old technique to reconstitute the damaged artwork. Given a user-defined region, Digital image inpainting approaches can restore the damaged region automatically on digital images. In the inpainting algorithm this paper proposed, gradients of half-points in the neighborhood of a damaged point and its matching point are used to estimate the gray value of the damaged point, instead of replacing the gray value with that of the matching point directly. The inpainting order is from outside to inside of the damaged region, following the rule "the more known neighbors, the sooner to be inpainted". It can repair the damaged image effectively as the experimental results show.
