Abstract
Effect of seasonal temperature fluctuations on performance 160 Gbps optical fiber networks with chromatic dispersion compensation is studied. Total compensation is obtained by adjusting both length of compensating fiber and compensation slope factors of transmission fiber that vary with seasonal temperature. Based on numerical models on temperature dependence and measurements data, numerical simulation studies have been performed. The obtained results show quantitative compensation requirements for seasonal thermal effects for the range of temperatures considered during seasonal changes in Muscat area of more than 60 degrees. The results show also that NRZ coding format is more tolerant to seasonal temperature fluctuations than RZ coding format.
