  • Abstract
    It is very importance to monitor fog for its impact on traffic and human health. With the development of remote sensing (RS) and geographical information system (GIS) technologies, the monitoring of fog can be easily and quickly. In this paper, a fog monitoring system based on RS and GIS was built up. Firstly, by the thresholds in different bands, the fog detection images were worked out from RS data of MODIS (moderate resolution imaging spectroradiometer). Secondly, based on geographical information database, the geo-analyst results (influence area, population and traffic) and thematic maps were output by GIS technologies. Under Microsoft. NET Framework, the system was completed by C#. The system was successfully applied to Chongqing area in Dec. 9th, 2008.
