Abstract
The total electron content (TEC) is responsible for the group delay of the signals from the navigational satellites resulting in ranging error and hence causing degradation in the position estimations. So, a priori prediction of the slant TEC can mitigate the problem by estimating the required correction of range errors in advance and applying it at the necessary point of application to improve positioning efficiency. A Kalman filter has been used in this work that uses the current TEC measurements to predict the slant TEC to be encountered at one step ahead. Results are obtained for different intervals of predictions and for different locations. The performance of the approach was observed and the stability of the algorithm was also examined using analysis of variance.
