Abstract :
Advances in optical transmission, switching, and wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) techniques have enabled next generation networks to be able to operate at several Terabits per second. WDM is an optical multiplexing technique that partitions the optical fiber bandwidth into multi-gigabit wavelength channels, each of which can be individually switched and routed. This paper discusses the architecture of optical network, analyzes the different network models, presents a novel technology to construct the hybrid model architecture for IP over WDM systems. The new architecture allows the coexistence for different model networks. Experiments show that the hybrid structure is efficient for optical communication network.
