The gear cases are widely used in aviation engines. The gear cases faults affect somewhat the safety of the engines and aircrafts. Gear faults detection is very important because the majority fault of gearbox is caused by the gears. The time-frequency distribution based cepstrum approach is applied to identify the gear fault in this paper. Both the Wigner-Viller distribution and Fourier transformation spectrum are used to locate the fault. The results show that the Wigner-Viller distribution based cepstrum method that is proposed in the paper is successfully to ascertain the gear fault.
