Abstract :
Worldwide interoperability for Microwave Access (WiMAX) networks are being deployed to offer Broadband (BB) wireless access to mobile users. One of the important aspects of current and upcoming wireless networks is handover management. In this paper we presented a new comprehensive mechanism for Handover (HO) in WiMAX wireless cellular network. Already existing mechanism for xG (2G, 2.5G, 2.75G, and 3G) networks only provide location based handover. However, the proposed mechanism for handover fulfills the need of technologies that are designed for providing Broadband Real-Time (BBRT) services by incorporating not only speed but also the service of interest of our user. Thus decreasing the interrupted real time services due to location based handover only and improves the Quality of Service (QoS) The parameters involved in performance evaluation include average handover latency, loss rate and call dropping probability. The results verify the effectiveness of this mechanism for real time and non real time services.
