Abstract :
This paper examines performance of an iterative two-end fault location algorithm which is proposed by Jan Izykowski et. al. The algorithm has been tested using field measurements from digital fault recorders installed at various stations within Thailand transmission network. The computed fault locations when compared to the actual findings from the respective site reports, are satisfactorily accurate for most of the cases. However, for the fault that occurs near either end of the line, the calculation using the suggested initialization may converge to wrong answer. Hence, this paper also proposes an alternative initialization method for synchronization angle that will always make the calculation converge to the right answer, as demonstrated by all the 8 test cases presented herein.
